Located on the Baltic Sea on north coast of Poland, Gdansk is a beautiful town full of history. However, in recent times it is more famous as being the birthplace of the Solidarity trade union movement, whose opposition led to the peaceful overthrow of the comunist government. The cranes of the shipyard where the movment started are visible in the background. The leader of the movement, Lech Walesa, went onto become president of Poland.
